What is involved in GBT and Airflow dental hygiene?

There are 8 steps within the Guided Biofilm Therapy process which include the dramatically different Airflow clean. Whilst treatment is thorough, it is comfortable and non-invasive.

Examination of teeth

In the first step, your teeth and gums will be given a thorough examination by one of our professional dentists. We will check for any signs of gingivitis and periodontal disease – both forms of gum disease.

Make biofilm visible

Using a special dye, we will make the biofilm in your mouth visible.

Dental hygiene advice

Based on the results of where the biofilm is located, we discuss ways to deal with this and keep teeth clean at home.

Airflow clean

Your mouth, teeth, tongue and gums are given a powerful Airflow clean which removes biofilm, stains and early calculus – hardened plaque.

Airflow uses a combination of compressed air and fine sodium bicarbonate powder in a jet of water so it can easily deal with the hard-to-reach areas in your mouth.

Whilst powerful, Airflow is gentle on your teeth because there is no direct contact or scraping of teeth. This makes it an ideal dental hygiene treatment if you suffer with sensitive teeth.

Perioflow

Using a special fine Perioflow nozzle, the Airflow formula can be used to clean and remove biofilm deep into the pockets of your gums.

Piezon

Next, the Piezon instrument is used to remove the remaining calculus from your teeth. Calculus is hardened plaque and cannot be removed by brushing. It is easier to remove once the biofilm has been erased. With its fine nozzle, Piezon is also used to clean deep around any restorations such as dental implants or fixed braces.

Final check

Your dentist conducts a final check of your mouth to ensure that all calculus and biofilm are fully removed.

A huge THANK YOU to Jeetinder and his amazing team. I had a complex Root Canal Treatment carried out on my molar tooth. This was a check-up visit, my first for several months, Katie is an old friend now and has been our dentist since Mr Pritchard retired.
